This Local Hidden Gem Restaurant Makes Lafayette The Chili Capital Of Louisiana

Some foods are just cold-weather foods. For example, the first cold front in Louisiana typically means we’re cooking gumbo. Another tried and true cold-weather food is chili, even though it's not a food that's associated with Louisiana, you'll still find it on plenty of menus across the Pelican State. I know where you can find the best chili in Lafayette, Louisiana. Let’s check it out:

Broaddus Burger is a locally owned burger joint that’s been flipping some of the best burgers in town for nearly a decade.

The family-friendly joint is as casual as you can get. Come as you are, and prepare to get down and dirty with some burgers. And chili.

The counter-serve restaurant has had so much success over the last few years that Broaddus was able to open a second location in 2023.

That location is on Congress Street in Lafayette. Both locations have the same menu, so make your way over to whichever one is closest to you.

As you may have gathered from the restaurant’s name, Broaddus Burgers is serious about burgers.

These burgers have won numerous awards, earning consecutive best burger in Lafayette awards over the years.

The restaurant's spin on a chili cheeseburger will have you asking yourself, "Why didn't I think of that?"

It's messy, but worth it.

The mac and cheese burger is just overflowing with creamy mac and cheese and their signature chili.

If you can believe it, there's also a flame-broiled patty in there.

The chili is a hidden gem on the menu, but its versatility means you can add to so many items on the menu.

Pictured above is the signature Shawn's Hotdog, named after the owner. Smothered with chili, pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, and Sriracha, this hot dog is taken to new levels with the chili.

Of course, a big order of chili cheese fries is always a good idea.

Try the chili on everything and see which one you like best!
