The Humble Cajun Restaurant In Louisiana That’s Was Owned By The Same Family For Over 100 Years

Louisiana has so many longstanding restaurants, it’s really rather impressive. Not just Grand Dame restaurants in New Orleans like Antoine’s or Commander’s Palace, but also iconic restaurants like Strawn’s Shreveport, Johnson’s Boucaniere in Lafayette, or Lea’s Lunchroom in Lecompte. All of these restaurants have been family-owned for decades, just like this restaurant in Abbeville, Louisiana. Let’s check it out:

Ask any local in Abbeville where to grab a bite to eat, and you’ll get directed to Dupuy’s.

Dupuy’s Seafood and Steakhouse has been around since 1869. In fact, Dupuy’s is still located in the same building where it all began! Joseph Dupuy began harvesting his own oysters and selling them for five cents a dozen in 1869.

Naturally, upgrades have been made over the years, but you can definitely still feel the history when you walk in.

And it's just as casual as ever.

Oysters are still on the menu, and you can get them in a few different ways.

You can’t go wrong with the classic ice-cold salty raw oysters, but both the oysters Rockefeller and the oysters de Ville are equally delicious. I’d personally go with the shell sampler so you can half a dozen of each!

The menu covers a wide range of Cajun seafood options that will win you over.

The crab cakes, pictured above, are a fan favorite for sure.

You can add crawfish étouffée to any entree, which is always a good idea.

Other seafood specialties include combos and seafood platters, plus po’boys, pasta, and even steaks.

You’ll want to try a bit of everything!

The portions are very generous, so you better come hungry.

You'll certainly be taking home a doggie bag with snacks for later!
