This Is Why Cunningham’s Creekside Is the Best Waterfront Dining in Kentucky for Peak Summer Vibes

A visit to Cunningham's Creekside on the banks of Harrod's Creek in Prospect, Kentucky, is the ideal spot for peak summer vibes.

Are you on the hunt for a restaurant with waterfront views so lovely that you'll feel like you're on vacation? I love enjoying a cold drink and beautiful scenery on a summer night, and I'm glad I can do so without leaving my home state of Kentucky. There are many waterfront restaurants in the Bluegrass State, but we've found one of the best to enjoy during summer. Cunningham's Creekside is a waterfront restaurant in Prospect, Kentucky, with peak summer vibes.

Cunningham's Restaurant opened more than 150 years ago as a grocery and deli on the corner of 5th and Breckenridge Streets in Louisville. Since then, it has had a series of owners, moves, and numerous challenges, like Prohibition during the 1920s, flooding in 1998, and a devastating fire in 2001. The decades have also brought remarkable success, like a surge in popularity after becoming the city's first drive-in restaurant in 1942. Brothers Joey and Brent George opened Cunningham's Creekside in its present location on the banks of Harrod's Creek in 2006. It remains a beloved eatery for its fantastic views and delicious food.

Cunningham's Creekside has a laid-back, casual atmosphere with seating indoors and out. The patio tables have large umbrellas and views of Harrod's Creek. Diners can enjoy watching boats come and go while they feast on delicious food and ice-cold drinks.

The creekside restaurant serves several starters like Shrimp Cocktail, Cheddar Beer Bites, and Chicken Wings. Diners can also start their meals with soups and salads, including the Garden Salad and The Wedge. Entrees include excellent seafood like a Fish Dinner with two pieces of hand-breaded and fried cod, a Shrimp Dinner with either grilled or fried shrimp, and the Grilled Whitefish Seafood Trio Platter with seasoned whitefish, shrimp, and oysters. Cunningham's Creekside also serves plenty of chicken and beef dishes, including a Ribeye Steak Sandwich, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Fried Chicken, and Pork Chops.

Warm summer evenings often pair well with a cold beer, glass of wine, or cocktail. The restaurant serves a selection of domestic and premium beers, including several straight from its special extra-cold chill chamber. Chardonnay, pinot grigio, riesling, pinot noir, merlot, and more are served by the glass for those who prefer wine. The restaurant's cocktails include the Creekside Old Fashioned with Maker's Mark, Cunningham's House Sangria, and a Bourbon Slushy with Buffalo Trace. I think a glass of homemade sangria sounds like the perfect way to celebrate a warm summer evening.
