The Largest Pulled Pork Sandwich in Kentucky Can Be Found at Smokey Bear’s Barbecue
This beloved local barbecue spot is famous for its epic pulled pork sandwiches, but what really stands out is the exceptional hospitality.
Finding delicious barbecue in Kentucky is hardly a challenge. But finding a small-town barbecue restaurant with as much heart and soul as Smokey Bears Barbecue feels like hitting the jackpot. You'll see what we mean when you visit this Corbin mom-and-pop kitchen and sink your teeth into one of the largest pulled pork sandwiches in the region. But the reason you'll want to keep visiting goes beyond the food—this is the kind of place that makes you feel like part of the community.
The Story Behind Smokey Bear’s BBQ
Like any great Kentucky Barbecue joint, Smokey Bear's BBQ has a story. It all started in 2010 when owner Barry Mays decided to leave his law enforcement career and pursue barbecue full-time. The name was planned to be Barry's BBQ until a clever play on words that also alluded to his former career took hold (cops are sometimes called Smokey Bears). And thus, Smokey Bear's BBQ was born.
The restaurant's logo is just as lovable—a pig in a police hat residing over the brand name "Smokey Bear's BBQ" all within the outline of a police badge. You'll find it on everything from the sign out front to their irresistible in-house sauces, which are worth stocking up on!
What to Order From the Menu
Over the years, Smokey Bear's has garnered a loyal following, both for its food and the down-home atmosphere. While the portions are generous for all of the dishes here, the star of the show is the Jailbreaker. It’s a massive, mouthwatering pulled-pork sandwich topped with bacon, onion tanglers, and a signature ranch dressing and barbecue sauce, all on a tasty, toasted bun. If you’re feeling courageous, you can get this big beast topped with jalapeños for an extra kick. Whichever way you take it, you’re going to be stuffed and satisfied. It comes with a side of your choice, like corn bead, country green beans, "Smoke BBQ" beans, and a whole slew of other options.
If you can’t finish it off, that’s no problem. Take the rest home for another meal…or two! Just be warned that the flavor is so scrumptious that once you start in on this sandwich, you won’t want to stop. Of course, pulled pork is just the start. So many options will keep you coming back, like beef brisket, baby back ribs, huge burgers, BBQ chicken, wings, catfish, and even an extensive gluten-free menu.
