I Love To Grab A Cocktail And A Few Plants At Pretty Decent In Louisville

Patrons can pick up both a plant and a cocktail at Pretty Decent in Louisville, Kentucky. The owners, Jeanne and John Douglass, envisioned the unusual combination of botanicals and cocktails. Jeanne is a Kentucky Master Gardener, and John worked in the hospitality industry for decades. Since opening in spring 2023, Pretty Decent has secured its place as one of the best local bars in Louisville. Having never experienced a combined cocktail bar and plant shop, I had to visit Pretty Decent for myself.

With a friend in tow, I walked into Pretty Decent on Frankfort Avenue on a warm spring evening, and the beautiful plants just inside the doors immediately captured my attention.

They create tapestries of green on the walls and tables. We marveled at how healthy the plants appeared. If only my plants at home had such vitality!

After browsing the gorgeous plants for a few minutes, we made our way to the cocktail bar.

Pretty Decent has a small outdoor seating area on Frankfort Avenue and an indoor seating area for 20 people towards the back of the building. We secured our spot inside at a table for two and settled into the casual, upbeat vibe at Pretty Decent. This is a great place for lively, relaxed conversation.

The menu had a variety of cocktails, beers, composed shots, boilers, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and bar snacks.

The server introduced himself and highlighted some noteworthy menu items. His service was efficient and welcoming.

My friend chose a rum cocktail with mango and lime, and I chose a non-alcoholic shrub, a fruit-infused drink made with sparkling water.

The drinks were delicious, and the emphasis on quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation was clear. Each drink had a sugared lime slice in it, which was both beautiful and sweet.

After enjoying our drinks, we took another lap around the plant displays.

We didn’t buy any plants this visit, but I know the next time I need a thoughtful gift, I will make a beeline to Pretty Decent for a beautiful plant. The shop sells plants of all shapes and sizes, from tiny succulents to large cacti and hanging baskets.

Since opening in 2023, Pretty Decent has collected some impressive accolades.

The bar is one of only twelve in the world to have received two PINs from the Pinnacle Guide, which recognizes the planet’s best cocktail bars. Pretty Decent was also named a Top 10 Regional Semifinalist for Best New Cocktail U.S.-East.

The unique place to visit in Louisville also offers classes, covering topics like beginning plant parenting, dried floral bouquets, and succulents.

After visiting, I agree that Pretty Decent in Louisville, Kentucky, is one of the best local bars in Louisville. It has a fantastic location on Frankfort Avenue, one of the most walkable streets in Louisville. An excellent Italian restaurant, Volare Ristorante, is nearby on Frankfort Avenue.
