This Buzzy Kentucky Restaurant Does One Dish Really, Really Well

Momma's Mustard, Pickles and BBQ has incredible chicken wings and much more.

Chicken wings are one dish that my entire family agrees on; every member gives them two thumbs up! As a result, we've tried them at many Kentucky restaurants. We've sampled sweet and sticky, spicy and tangy, smoked wings, and more. There are many worthy contenders, but one chicken wing reigns supreme in my household. They are the chicken wings at Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ in Louisville, Kentucky. The wings have serious flavor, but not too much heat, and are juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Take one bite and you'll be hooked!

We're not the only ones loving the food at Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ. The buzzworthy dishes have earned the restaurant several awards, including Best BBQ in the LEO Reader's Choice Awards and Best of the Best by the Courier-Journal. Owner Chad Coolidge told the Courier-Journal in 2023 that the restaurant's wings receive lots of attention and have won awards in the city and state. Coolidge opened the first Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ in 2012, followed by a second location a year later.

The menu at Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ features pork and beef ribs, nachos, chili, and salads topped with pulled pork, pulled chicken, and other proteins. It also serves a Half Chicken, Momma's Meatloaf, and a variety of BBQ sandwiches, including pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, smoked sausage, and smoked turkey. The Mucho Macho Fried Hot Pickles are a nod to the winning racehorse, Mucho Macho Man, of which Coolidge partly owned. Of course, its beloved Dry Rubbed, Smoked & Flash Fried Wings are on the menu, and are sold individually or as a set of 10.

The restaurant also serves cocktails, including drinks made with more than 200 different types of bourbons. Other drinks include fountain drinks and tea. A plate of delicious hot chicken wings and a cool beverage sounds like the perfect, relaxed meal.

Customers can enjoy their BBQ in the restaurant's dining room or outdoors on the deck, which has a colorful mural and string lights. Patrons can also buy meat by the pound; I've done this many times when hosting guests at my home. No matter where they eat their meal, customers can feel good about supporting Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ. The restaurant has given more than $800,000 to local charities through its 2% for Louisville program. This program donates to Special Olympics of Kentucky, Home of the Innocents, Louisville Sierra Club, the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Dare to Care, and the Healing Place.
