Dine on the Prairie at The Burning Barrel, Kansas’s Most Unique Restaurant in LeCompton

Fresh soups, salads, and farm-to-table delicacies await.

Historically, Kansas hasn't been known as a hotbed of fine dining. Sure, we have some elegant places to eat here in the Sunflower State, but like many places in the Midwest, we're primarily known as a meat-and-potatoes, simple-eats type of place. All of that has been changing over the last few years, and you can now find quite a few fine dining restaurants in Kansas.

One of our favorites is The Burning Barrel in LeCompton, Kansas. It's set in a tranquil farm atmosphere that feels so quintessentially Kansas, but features upscale, elegant food that wouldn't be out of place in Los Angeles or New York City. Check it out:

The Burning Barrel is one of the most unique restaurants in Kansas. The restaurant is located right on a farm, featuring farm-to-table dining in an outdoor setting. While it's under a roof, it's open-air, but there are fans and propane heaters to make sure guests are comfortable no matter the weather. Menus are set with either three or five courses, lasting from two to three hours.

Dining here is as much of an experience as it is a meal. Nearly all of the ingredients used in the meals are grown right here on the farm. But rest assured that if something wasn't grown or obtained on the farm, it was responsibly sourced from as close by as possible. That means you're enjoying the freshest possible food that's home-grown and uniquely Kansan.

Some notable favorites among previous guests include perfectly roasted chicken, fresh grilled fish, refreshingly bright salads, and heart-healthy roasted vegetable medleys of fresh squash, corn, and legumes. While adjustments can't be made to fit dietary preferences, there is one night a month when vegetarian meals are served.

Foodies adore the fresh, rotating menus, and cocktail connoisseurs appreciate the craft beverages that are carefully selected to pair well with each meal. Menus are typically posted one day before the event. Arrive at 6 p.m. for drinks and settle into the charming atmosphere before digging in.

The Burning Barrel is $80 per person, gratuity not included. Reservations are required well in advance of your desired dining date, as spots are limited. And the restaurant is only open seasonally—May through October—on Fridays and Saturdays. Loved your experience so much? Plan a private wedding or event on the grounds and enjoy another artfully prepared meal right on the property!

Just imagine enjoying a sunset over the rolling fields of The Burning Barrel's property, drink in hand, and bellies (and hearts!) full from dinner. If you've never been to this farm-to-table restaurant in LeCompton, now's your chance! For more information about The Burning Barrel, check out The Burning Barrel website.
