The Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants, including these 10 restaurants that were named among the best in the country, according to Yelp. But when it comes to worldwide recognition, there is one eatery that stands above the rest - Honolulu’s Town is one of the world’s greatest restaurants, according to Conde Nast Traveler’s "Where in the World to Eat," a massive compilation of the best 207 restaurants around the globe.
Located in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu, Town may not look like much from the outside, but we guarantee you’ll be pleasantly surprised once you step inside, catch a glimpse of the eatery’s ambiance, and taste some of their scrumptious food.
With a dated exterior, and a sleek, modern and slightly rustic interior, Town isn’t necessarily what one might expect to find - especially in Hawaii.
Guided by the mantra “local first, organic whenever possible and Aloha always,” this magnificent farm-to-table establish serves up some of the best food around.
From juicy pork chops and perfectly crispy and seasoned fries to locally-sourced fish and decadent desserts, anything you order from Town is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of taste buds.
The menu not only features produce from local farms - including Waianae’s Ma’o Organic Farm - as well as traditional Hawaiian canoe crops like kalo and ‘ulu. Just don’t expect to find the same thing every time you go as the menu rotates based on the availability of local ingredients.
Town, which was opened in 2005 to rave reviews, was the first of executive chef and owner Ed Kenney’s restaurants - of which he now owns four.
According to Peter Jon Lindberg, and quoted in Conde Nast Traveler, “Chef Ed Kenney, son of a famed hula dancer is like Michael Pollan if Michael Pollan could surf, hunt wild boar, and cook circles around any mainland chef.”
Ed Kenney has been named as a semi-finalist for Best Chef: West each year since 2013 by the James Beard Foundation. He has been featured in major publications like Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, Saveur, and Travel + Leisure in addition to the latest recognition from Conde Nast Traveler. Oh, and he has even cooked for First Lady Michelle Obama.
Town is located at 3435 Waialae Avenue in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. For more information, call 808.735.5900 or visit their website.
