Hawaii’s 12th Ave Grill Was Just Named One Of The World’s Best Hidden Gems

12th Ave Grill in Honolulu is a highly acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant recognized as a hidden gem worth visiting.

From underrated eateries to upscale, oceanfront restaurants, the Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants that are loved and frequented by many. Over the years, many of these Aloha State restaurants have received quite a bit of recognition, and while we all have our famous favorites, you may want to add this spot to your dining bucket list. This restaurant is recognized as one of the Top 25 Hidden Gem Restaurants in Hot Destinations by Kayak and OpenTable, and it’s worth traveling for.

Tucked away in the heart of Honolulu’s Kaimuki neighborhood is 12th Ave Grill, a local eatery that’s received some pretty major recognition lately.

OpenTable described their list as featuring “under-the-radar establishments and off-the-beaten-path hotspots that highlight local favorites so you can soak up a city’s true culture and vibe.”

In order to be considered, a restaurant must have at least 4.4 stars on Open Table and be tagged as a "neighborhood gem" in at least 10 percent of reviews.

Unsurprisingly, 12th Ave Grill made the cut. This farm-to-table restaurant features a menu utilizing locally sourced produce and proteins alongside craft cocktails made with housemade shrubs and syrups.

The menu is full of unique flavors sure to satisfy your taste buds. From truffled sashimi-grade ahi tartare and smoked ahi bruschetta to crispy beer-battered local avocado and crisp salads, their small plates are particularly enticing.

Large plates include pan-roasted scallops, lamb Osso Bucco, ribeye steak, grilled pork chops, and market fish — all sourced locally, of course, and prepared wonderfully with the flavors of Hawaii.

OpenTable suggests ordering the flavorful Jidoori chicken breast with Manoa honey and Hamakua mushroom ragout to taste the flavors of Hawaii, and we certainly agree.

Add a side of baked mac and cheese, sauteed Hamakua mushrooms, or roasted garlic mashed potatoes and you’ll be in foodie heaven.

While OpenTable and Kayak readers say they will travel for food, visiting 12th Ave Grill is easy for anyone who lives on Oahu — and a must for anyone visiting from the neighboring islands.

12th Ave Grill is open for dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Have you ever been to 12th Ave Grill? Is it on your must-visit restaurant list now? If not, it should be!
