Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are those who skip breakfast but never lunch. And for others, dinner is the highlight of the day. No disrespect to any of those people, but we just happen to think that the rising popularity of brunch has real merit, especially when you take a peek at these mouthwatering brunch spots in Southern California. Could this be the best meal of the day?

6. Mama’s on 39, Huntington Beach
Come to Mama’s for the ultimate in comfort food. A large part of the extensive menu is dedicated to the “Any-time breakfast” options, which include heart-healthy options as well as so-called “widow-maker” items (comically marked with a broken heart) like the Loaded Biscuit Skillet. There are plenty of delicious items and combos on the menu, but you can also order the “Tell Mama What You Want Scramble.” If the food is not enough comfort, head for the Sunday PJ Brunch; wear your pajamas and order brunch before 10 a.m. to get 20 percent off your meal!

10. Toast Kitchen and Bakery, Cosa Mesa
If you want a mouthwatering twist on your absolute favorite comfort brunch foods, head to Toast Kitchen and Bakery. Craving something sweet? Try the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Short Stack, Ube French Toast, or the PB and J French Toast. This beauty is not kid food. It is brioche with creme brûlée batter, miso-peanut butter pastry cream, strawberry sauce, strawberry whipped cream, and peanut butter feuilletine. For savory moods, the Croque Madame, Thai Chile Chilaquiles, or Roasted Bell Pepper and Kale Quiche may fit the bill. You could enjoy your brunch with a Champagne flight or Hail Mary, but there are tons of delightful options, including Strawberries on a Summer Evening - basil fillet blanc sangria with strawberry popsicle.
