Things aren't always what they seem. Take the Hamburger Station, for example. At first glance you might mistake it for a service station – and that’s no coincidence. It used to be one. However, its years as a service station are long gone. Now, it’s a restaurant with a reputation for serving some of the best burgers in the country.
Located in Paragould, the Hamburger Station is a local landmark known for its unique setting and signature burgers, which are lovingly referred to as humburgers.
The Hamburger Station opened in 1985; however, the building that houses it has been around much longer.
Originally the Texaco Station No. 1, it was built in 1925! In 2001, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, as it’s one of only two surviving early gas stations in Paragould.
Because of its historic status, the building can’t be changed too much, which is a good thing because the appearance is part of its appeal.
The other part of its appeal is the burgers. They’re delicious!
A lot of people proclaim the burgers to be among the best in the nation.
So, what’s the secret? Well, it likely has something to do with the fact that Hamburger Station uses fresh, never frozen, quality ground beef.
Plus, all the burgers are hand-pattied and grilled to order.
And don’t forget about the toppings.
Dress your burger up with everything from mayo, mustard, and ketchup to bacon and Cole slaw.
The palate-pleasing menu also includes sides that are just as enticing as the burgers. Choose from several types of fries, onion rings, tater tots, and tater balls (tater tots with cheddar cheese inside).
There are also sandwiches, salads, catfish, and other options for anyone who isn’t a burger fan.
Remember, Hamburger Station is an old-fashioned dairy bar, so orders are placed at a walk-up window. Also, there’s no indoor dining. There are a few picnic tables, though, so you can enjoy your grub on site.
And whether you’re a repeat customer or a first-timer, you’ll see a friendly face when you visit the Hamburger Station – so make sure to have a camera handy.
