The Saltry Restaurant opened back in 1984, and it's been serving up the most delicious seafood ever since. Located in Halibut Cove, this little gem is tucked away in the wilderness...but it sure is getting a lot of press lately.

The restaurant has been featured in the New York Times, on CBS, and in Bon Appétit Magazine, just to name a few. It was also recently applauded for its excellent salmon on USA Today. What's all the fuss about? Fresh, creative dishes served up in a stunning setting.

Kick your meal off with the appetizer platter, which showcases some of Alaska's finest fresh seafood.

You won't find oysters that are more fresh than this - they're pulled right out of Kachemak Bay.

The lunch and dinner menus are small, but every item is perfectly prepared. Enjoy salmon, halibut, black cod, octopus, pork, or risotto for dinner. Each dish is full of flavor, and served up in generous portions.

You definitely want to save some room for dessert - the Callebaut Chocolate Cheesecake is legendary.

To reach Halibut Cove, you'll take the Danny J Ferry from Homer. For a dining adventure unlike any other, hop aboard the Gull Island Tour at noon.

You'll be treated to a delightful tour that includes viewing nine different species of nesting birds on Gull Island, and a tour of Kachemak Bay, where you might see whales, seals, and sea otters. You'll spend three hours exploring Halibut Cove, and can grab a meal at The Saltry before returning to Homer at 4 p.m.
