Talkeetna Roadhouse is famous all throughout Alaska and beyond for their mouthwatering pies. A traditional Alaskan roadhouse, this amazing place has a bakery that is out of this world. It's so popular they even host baking classes to learn how to craft their delicious pies!
The Talkeetna Roadhouse is an institution in Talkeetna, Alaska.
The roadhouse was built in 1917 and is a historically significant building, providing lodging fur trappers, miners, and now climbers of Denali and explorers of Talkeetna and the surrounding area. This building now houses the bakery where you can find the best pies in the world!
All of their pies are baked from scratch.
The pie dough itself is hand-crafted, and the fruit filing is also made in-house. You can taste the care and detail each pie is baked with!
If you can't imagine your life without this pie in it, then you should definitely take one of their pie making classes.
It's such a popular event that the Alaska Railroad even offers a winter rail package that includes pie making at this bakery. They are on offer as a package through the Alaska Railroad, every weekend throughout the winter.
Their bakery offers more than just pies for your sweet tooth.
Freshly made donuts, cookies right out of the oven, and scones bedeck their bakery case. Their ginger molasses cookies are so popular they will even ship them straight to your door!
Possibly the only thing more famous from the roadhouse is their sourdough hotcakes.
The roadhouse has been serving breakfast since 1927, using a sourdough starter from 1902. No matter what you're ordering, you will love what you get.
And of course, as a roadhouse, they offer overnight accommodations for you in their rustic, original two-story log building.
The roadhouse offers lodging upstairs, or you can rent out one of their many cabins around town. All are comfortable, unique rooms, offering a first hand glimpse into what it was like to travel through Alaska many years ago.
You can visit this wonderful roadhouse seven days a week, all year long!
Their hours are 7:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. They're even open on some holidays like Christmas! Make sure to check their Facebook page for updates on holidays hours.
