Enjoy An Unforgettable Meal At This Delicious Farm To Fork Restaurant In Alabama
It's been said that the fastest way to a person's heart is through their stomach, and there's no better way for the Heart of Dixie to win your heart than through our Southern cooking. It's even more special when you find a place where the best of the region's bounty is both celebrated and elevated, as it is at Acre, a highly regarded farm-to-fork restaurant in Auburn, Alabama. Its stellar reputation precedes every reservation, and visitors are rewarded for doing themselves the favor of exploring our state's flavor at Acre.
Located in the heart of Auburn's historic downtown district, Acre is just steps away from the iconic Toomer's Corner and even has a Toomer’s oak tree of its own – a genetic clone grown from a root of an original.
Chef David Bancroft, a former Auburn University business student, opened Acre in 2013, crafting an ever-changing menu that relies on the seasonal produce of on-site gardens, nearby farms, and other producers.
Acre quickly sprouted a local following that quickly blossomed nationally and bore fruit in prestigious nominations for Bancroft, who has been a semifinalist for the James Beard Best Chef awards multiple times.
From apps to entrees to desserts (HELLO Peanut Butter Pie), every dish showcases a thoughtful blend of traditional Southern flavors and contemporary culinary techniques.
Bancroft collaborates with Auburn University's Meat Lab and local ranchers to source meats. Acre's chicken-fried bacon is among its bestsellers. Complement your meal with a selection of artisanal cheeses, and house-made pickles and jams, all also highlighting local producers.
Where's the beef? Word on the street is that Acre's Burger Night specials are not to be missed. Burger nights are dine-in only, and reservations are strongly recommended.
When it comes to seafood, Alabama's natural blessings once again deliver. Bancroft sources the freshest fish and shellfish from our Gulf Coast waters.
You probably won't be surprised to learn cocktail selections focus on what's fresh, too. You can order classics regardless of the season, but I'd personally feel a little wrong not going for something from the Peach Bar when these juicy fruits are at their peak.
Meanwhile, Acre's atmosphere is as tasteful and thoughtful as the menu. The spacious outdoor patio offers shade in the summer and a cozy fireplace in the winter. Inside, the interior features salvaged beams from a 100-year-old general store and solid oak walls from wood harvested on Bancroft's grandfather's land.
From the design to every dish, it's clear there is great care about making sure people feel a sense of connection to Alabama's best offerings in every detail. In other words, Acre is doing a fine job as an ambassador of what it means to take a big bite of Alabama.
Since menus change seasonally, the best way to keep up with what you might expect when visiting is to check out the Acre website and follow along for the latest news on the Acre Facebook page.
