Nothing says pick-me-up quite like a trip to a local chocolatier. These special businesses have perfected the art of candy-making, whether a made-from-scratch truffle or a picture-perfect confection. Chocolates are the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, but I also find that they have a way of making an ordinary day feel magical. Here in Alabama, we don't need to look far to find these delightful chocolatiers. One of our favorites, Elizabeth Moore Chocolates, is tucked away in Pelham, AL, and promises an experience you won't soon forget.

In 2022, Elizabeth Moore Chocolates opened its doors, welcoming visitors from near and far to experience high-quality chocolates and confections made by an award-winning and professionally trained chocolatier. Originally from England, Susan Elizabeth Moore, known today as Susan Notter, channeled her love of fine chocolates and confectionery. She founded a business that has certainly made a splash in the past few years.

When you step inside, your eye will immediately be drawn to the abundance of picture-perfect truffles, confections, and bonbons in the display case. The colors, shapes, and designs are nothing short of masterful, and you'll likely need to take your time deciding which to try first. If you can't make up your mind, pre-boxed chocolates are also available.

If you're a lucky local, be sure to stop by during different times of the year to enjoy the seasonal varieties, ranging from Irish Cream truffles to mulled wine bonbons, vanilla caramel, and much, much more. This is one chocolate shop in Alabama that embraces every season, inviting you to celebrate with a box of chocolates tailored to each holiday.

What truly sets this place apart, though, are the classes offered by Susan herself. Sign up for a chocolate-making class, and you can enjoy a hands-on experience of truffle-making and decorating. Not only will you leave with a greater appreciation for the process, but you'll learn a lot about the international chocolate industry. All you need to do is bring an apron from home, and afterward, you'll bring your beautiful chocolates home with you.
