9 Florida Sandwiches You Have To Try Before You Die
We all have our own idea of what the best food in the world is, but everyone can appreciate a good sandwich. It turns out Florida has plenty of famous (and should-be-famous) sandwiches all over the state, just waiting to be devoured. Check out a few of our favorites below, and then let us know yours!
1. Club Sandwich, Wright's Gourmet House, Tampa
Wright's in Tampa has been selling sandwiches since 1963. They've lasted so long because of their creative sandwiches and top-notch desserts. Currently Tampa's number-one restaurant on TripAdvisor, every sandwich is delicious, but the club is a good place to start.
2. The Tropical, La Sandwicherie, Miami Beach
This French-owned sandwich shop in Miami has been serving up the freshest, most delicious sandwiches on fresh baguettes and croissants for decades. Try the Tropical, a specialty sandwich with avocado, mozzarella, veggies, papaya, mango, pineapple, and their famous homemade vinaigrette. I know fruit on a sandwich sounds crazy, but don't knock it til you try it.
3. Medianoche, Enriqueta's, Miami
This local fave offers a fast and affordable way to try Florida's signature sandwich, the Cubano (or Cuban), while visiting Miami. Try the traditional Cubano or the Medianoche, which is served on a sweeter Challah-like bread.
4. Grouper Sandwich, Peg Leg Pete's, Pensacola Beach
Okay, so maybe a pirate-themed restaurant is a little touristy. Does that mean it can't be awesome? Peg Leg Pete's is super family friendly, with lots to see and do. There's nothing phony about this fresh, perfectly fried grouper sandwich.
5. The Florida Cracker, Yellow Dog Eats, Gotha
From the cozy, rustic interior to the funky backyard patio complete with a VW bus, the only thing that can outshine YDE's atmosphere is the incredible food. The Florida Cracker showcases YDE's phenomenal BBQ, with pulled pork, coleslaw, bacon, cheese, fried onions and spicy pickles.
6. The Mama, Laspada's Original Hoagies, Broward
This mini-chain in Broward is the place to go for giant, mouthwatering hoagies. One of the most popular specialties, the Mama features turkey and salami, plus the requisite sweet and hot peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and pickles.
7. Roast Beef Sandwich, Beefy King, Orlando
Beefy King is a local landmark, specializing in steamed roast beef sandwiches since 1968. It has been owned and managed by the same family for three generations. This roast beef sandwhich blows the national chain out of the water.
8. Cuban Sandwich, Strawberry Hut Sandwich Shop, Plant City
Strawberry Hut claims to have made the first (and best) Cuban sandwiches in Plant City, and it's only right to try a strawberry milkshake while you're here, too.
9. Philly Cheesesteak, Delco's Original Steak & Hoagies, Dunedin
You'll swear you stepped through the door and into Philly when you taste these cheesesteaks. Be sure to bring a friend or a really big appetite.
