Salt Springs is one of the scenic recreational areas located within the Ocala National Forest, the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi.
It gets its name from the minerals found here that give the water its slight salinity. Some also believe these minerals give the springs a healing quality.
The springs are full of crystal-clear emerald water that bubbles up from cracks in the earth.
The semi-tropical oasis is surrounded by lush greenery and ancient trees dripping with moss.
This area is popular with campers, as the largest campground in this national forest and the only one with full RV hookups. There is also a nice, shady area for tent sites as well.
This recreation area is located within the tiny town of Salt Springs, which also has a gas station, grocery store, and laundromat, making it a very convenient spot to visit.
