Everyone may flock to Florida for the winter, but as a native Floridian, fall has always been my absolute favorite time of year. It’s the only time that (almost) makes up for the hot, humid, seemingly endless summers. Snowbirds love the winter, everyone loves spring, and school-aged kids eagerly await summertime, but blink and you’ll miss our incredible fall. Unfortunately it seems to start later here than everywhere else, but don’t worry, it won’t be too long now.

1. The worst of the heat is over.

It's not exactly chilly the entire season, but at least the risk of heatstroke will greatly decline.
2. That one tree that changes color.

So maybe we're not known for a super visible fall season, but even the little changes are really pretty.
3. Fall flavors.

Pumpkin-flavored everything, everywhere, every day. If it was available year-round, you probably wouldn't even care, but the fact it'll soon be gone makes it irresistible.
4. Pumpkin patches.

Picking out the perfect pumpkin makes you feel like a kid again. Carving them is even more fun.
5. The best holidays.

That's right, Christmas, I said it. I prefer the more fun, laid-back holidays where you're either stuffing your face with candy or stuffing your face with stuffing. And there's no pressure to buy anything for anybody. Clearly, these are the best holidays.
6. The elusive fall wardrobe.

There's a very short window when you can wear certain things like sweaters or tights here, so to me it makes them more special.
7. Outdoor festivities.

No one in their right mind plans outdoor events here in the summer. You'll find more festivals, weddings, parties, and all the best outdoor events in the fall and spring (with a few exceptions). 8. The best porch sittin'.

This is, hands down, my favorite time of year for one of our favorite pastimes. The temperature's pretty close outside to indoors, and the air is so fresh and crisp.
9. All your favorite outdoor activities become much more bearable.

This is the perfect time to hop on your bike, go for a stroll, or toss around a football with your siblings. The perfect weather is so energizing you can exercise or play for hours without getting too tired.
10. It's the perfect time of year to go camping.

Florida has tons of amazing state parks, but at the wrong time of year, they can be pretty miserable. Pictured is the gorgeous O'Leno State Park in High Springs in fall.
11. The beach is void of summer or winter crowds.
