Love is a battlefield wherever you are, but dating in Florida can have its own unique challenges. Here are a few things to remember if you're looking for love in the Sunshine State.
1. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
Florida has a population of nearly 20 million people, so don't despair if you date a few duds.
2. It's okay to take it slow.
Year-round summer weather can throw people into permanent summer fling mode, but sometimes it's the tortoise who wins this race.
3. Beaches are free, ridiculously romantic, and never too far away.
How could anyone resist a date somewhere as beautiful as this spot on Captiva Island?
4. Seafood is always a good option.
We have so much excellent seafood here, and it doesn't have to break the bank. Oysters are an aphrodisiac, right?
5. We expect to be wined and dined, and wined some more.
Something about living in tropical weather makes people want to party, so you better be prepared to hold your own without acting like a drunken frat boy.
6. There are two kinds of people.
Beach dwellers and city dwellers. Never the two shall date.
7. Don't let the casual atmosphere fool you.
Just because we prefer shorts and flip-flops most of the time doesn't mean we deserve less romance or chivalry.
8. Be prepared for the heat.
Not necessarily between you and your date, but definitely every time you walk outside. Sweating through that new shirt or having your hair go crazy the second you walk out into the humidity can make you really self-conscious on a first date. This couple seems to be managing it nicely.
9. Don't cancel a date because of stormy weather.
Take advantage of being stuck indoors as an excuse to get some quality time with your sweetie. Power's out? Just an opportunity to break out the candles.
10. You're never too old to find love.
If you're a single senior, you've come to the right place. There are plenty of eligible older bachelors and bachelorettes here.
