There’s Something Unusual About This Enchanting Spot In Wyoming

There's something very unusual about this enchanting spot in Wyoming. Between North Oregon Butte and Bridger Pass, the Continental Divide splits and forms a ring around a desert-like area known as the Great Divide Basin. The basin is made up of sagebrush, mountains, badlands, sand dunes and unprotected wildlife.

The Great Divide Basin is a large portion of land in Wyoming's Red Desert. The unique thing about this basin area is that there is no outlet to either the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic Ocean for the water that falls and flows here.

The Diagnus Well in the Great Divide Basin is a grant funded project that provides water for wildlife and livestock in the dry and barren landscape.

The Ferris Mountains are a small mountain range located in Carbon County. Ferris Peak is the highest point in the Great Divide Basin. The peak rises to a height of 10,037 feet.

Check out the rock formations in the Great Divide Basin. Look at the contrasting hues throughout the rock.

The hill in this picture represents a volcanic center in the eastern Leucite Hills called Black Rock. This once active area is found along the Great Divide Basin.

Spring Butte is another volcanic center located in southwestern Wyoming's Leucite Hills. This is another feature found along the Great Divide Basin.

This monument is in memory of Henry B. Joy who was the first president of the Lincoln Highway which was the first transcontinental road. The monument was originally located in the Great Divide Basin near Rawlins. It was later moved to the Summit rest stop on I 80 just east of Laramie, Wyoming.
