There's a hauntingly beautiful quality to ruins as if you can feel the presence of what once was. Like this drone footage captured of the historic Hilltop House Hotel in West Virginia. This beautiful abandoned building was once a sought-after luxury tourist destination, overlooking scenic Harpers Ferry. Now, it lies abandoned, and today we're going to explore this forgotten treasure. Have you ever heard of the Harpers Ferry haunted hotel?
The hotel has been a fixture in Harpers Ferry since 1889.
For the time, it was considered luxurious with electric lights, bath tubs with hot and cold running water, a dance pavilion and 4,000-square-foot dining room. Steam heat kept guests warm in the winter. Famous people frequented this sought-after place.
Now it is crumbling after structural issues from an old fire made it unsafe.
The deteriorating hotel stands in stark contrast to its surroundings. Visitors to the site may stand in awe of the choppy waters of the Potomac, the rolling hillside across the valley and the historic sweep of Harpers Ferry, only to be taken aback by the abandoned building, which is completely explored to the elements.
And it's not just the outside that's falling apart; what lies inside these crumbling walls is truly haunting.
The hotel still contains glimpses of the past. You can almost see the visitors gathering around the piano, enjoying its beautiful tones.
But there's finally hope on the horizon for Hill Top House.
Under new ownership, the hope is to restore this historic hotel back to its former glory: to become a transformative retreat, in the spirit of Thomas Lovett's original vision. Look for the new Hill Top Hotel in 2024.
