St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church Is A Pretty Place Of Worship In West Virginia

It goes without saying there are a lot of beautiful churches in the world. Religious fervor inspires the creation of man-made wonders like nothing else. It really takes a special church to stand out as particularly gorgeous. We've got a historic church right here in West Virginia that is absolutely breathtaking. St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church has been around for centuries and between its magnificent architecture and unparalleled location, we think you'll agree it's one of the prettiest places of worship in the state.

St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church was built in Harpers Ferry in 1833. It was actually the only church in the town that survived the devastation of the Civil War.

While the architecture is obviously magnificent, what makes this place really special is the location. It's located just off the Appalachian Trail and has beautiful views of the Shenandoah Gorge and Potomac River.

The interior of the church has beautiful stained glass windows in various colors.

Unlike many churches, there are no portraits or intricate artworks depicted in the stained glass, but they are nonetheless beautiful.

Amazingly, the inside of the church is just one big room!

They still hold mass here weekly.

Even if you aren't particularly devout, this is an incredible place to come just to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings.

The church was built to provide a place of worship for Irish immigrants in the area, but needless to say, it's enjoyed by all now!

You can actually see the church from much of the historic areas in Lower Town in Harpers Valley.
