The quaint little town of Fayetteville has a lot going for it. Adjoining the New River Gorge, a natural wonder and the nation’s newest National Park, Fayetteville sports tons of outdoor recreational opportunities and boasts a beautiful historic downtown, and has been variously called one of the "Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America" and the "Best River Town". The area is a mecca for mountain bikers, whitewater rafters, and rock climbers.
But for those who want to enjoy a quiet but modern small-town atmosphere, Fayetteville holds other kinds of treasures. One of those is The Hobbit Hole.
This antique and curiosity shop is tucked away in the basement of a 100-year-old stone building in the downtown historic district.
With its entrance below street level, it is certainly aptly named - and like hobbit holes in other worlds, this little shop holds hidden treasures.
You can find antiques and knickknacks of all sorts, from furniture to clothing to books to jewelry.
The Hobbit Hole prides itself on reducing waste by reusing, repurposing, and restoring old things into fresh treasures!
The Hobbit Hole is one of several unique locally owned shops in historic downtown Fayetteville. Take the time to browse the diverse collection of boutiques, thrift stores, antique stores, book shops, art shops, restaurants, and pubs, not to mention the historic county courthouse and nearby theater.
The striking brick and stone courthouse dates to 1897, while the theater and many other buildings date to Fayetteville’s glory days of coal in the early 1900s.
Whatever attraction brings you to Fayetteville (more on those here), between your other adventures, be sure to enjoy a leisurely visit to The Hobbit Hole. You can find them on Facebook here. But be sure to pop into the shop in person; in this quaint little nook, chances are you’ll find something to suit your personal style and enhance your own living space!
