West Virginia is the queen of the holiday season. We've got all kinds of festive events, including massive light displays sponsored by resorts, parks, and cities around the state. But what about the fabulous private Christmas light displays in front yards across West Virginia, best known to locals? Every area has them - houses that are worth driving by again and again in the Christmas season because their owners go all out with dozens and dozens of fun, festive yard ornaments.
Everyone, there's someone we want you to meet. He's a well-known local figure in West Virginia; his name is Westover Santa.
Westover Santa makes his home on Maple Avenue in Westover, West Virginia - at least, he makes his home there during the month of December each year.
And he's not alone.
Westover Santa and dozens and dozens of his friends camp out on the lawn of holiday decorator extraordinaire, homeowner Ronnie Cain.
Every year, Cain goes all out, stringing thousands of lights and installing dozens of lawn ornaments.
As a result of all his work, he boasts one of the most festive front yards in the whole Mountain State!
Each season, more than two thousand children come to enjoy his light display - not to mention the grown-ups that bring them.
Cain knows the number of children, specifically, because he keeps track of how many candy canes he hands out each season - one per child.
So as you make plans for the holiday season, add a trip to Westover's Maple Avenue to the list...
... and say hello to Westover Santa for us while you're there!
