Don’t Miss The Biggest Single Day Festival In West Virginia This Year, Bridge Day

Bridge Day is West Virginia's largest single-day festival, featuring activities like BASE jumping, rappelling, and ziplining off the New River Gorge Bridge.

If, for some odd reason, all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you? NO! The answer is NO! ...unless, of course, that bridge was the longest single span arched bridge in the nation and the occasion was Bridge Day!

In what has become West Virginia's largest single-day festival, Bridge Day brings together as many as 100,000 people to appreciate the iconic New River Gorge Bridge in ways that they cannot otherwise do the other 364 days of the year.

Participants in Bridge Day can walk the bridge, rappel or zipline off the bridge, or even BASE jump off the bridge.

Yes, that is a diving board affixed to the edge of the New River Gorge Bridge for the BASE jumpers - a diving board that gives a new definition to the term high dive!

Hundreds of vendors line the streets, selling food, products, and souveniers to the crowd that has gathered to enjoy the Bridge Day fun.

Some spectators even wait at the base of the bridge to photograph and cheer the BASE jumpers as they land in the New River 876 feet below the bridge.

Have you ever participated in Bridge Day? Are you planning to this year? It's always held the third Saturday in October, so mark your calendar!

To learn more about this year's bridge day and how to participate, visit the Bridge Day website or Facebook page. In addition to BASE jumping, rappelling, and ziplining, there's also a 5K race and opportunities to enjoy the bridgewalk, white water rafting, great food, a chili cook-off, or an exlusive ride down into the gorge. Don't miss any aspect of this bucket-list-worthy adventure! Now that you know all about Bridge Day, head here to learn more about the New River Gorge Bridge itself.
