The Purple Store originally opened on Aurora Avenue North, but eventually moved to its current location in Pike Place Market.

The store was founded in 2004 after the founder made a sarcastic remark.

When people would ask owner Adam Sheridan where he got something, he'd sarcastically answer "at the doorknob store" or "at the necklace store." One day he answered a question with "the Purple Store," and the name stuck. And we're so glad it did!
