My perfect vacation involves lots of eating, a generous dash of outdoor adventure, and at least one full day spent thrifting. Leavenworth is one of Washington's most popular vacation towns, attracting more than two million visitors annually. Still, despite having natural beauty in spades and a quirky Bavarian theme, there aren't thrift stores in the community's downtown. Luckily, just 20 minutes away, there's Cashmere's Apple Annie Antique Gallery, easily the best antique store near Leavenworth.
Tucked right off Highway 2, Apple Annie's has become one of my favorite spots for treasure-hunting. I'm not the only one who thinks so. Since its opening in 2006, this sprawling spot has earned the title of "World's Best Antique Gallery" several times over.
With over 70,000 square feet of vending space, it's almost guaranteed there's a special something at Apple Annie's that's destined for your home. Not to mention, with 200 vendors curating a constantly changing inventory, there's undoubtedly a collector whose taste aligns with yours.
That said, every antique mall has its strengths and weaknesses. If you're committed to a mid-century modern aesthetic, you may not find what you're looking for. While there are stalls specializing in 1950s and '60s objects and furniture, they trend towards traditional Americana.
Still, I believe the best homes are an eclectic collection of pieces that sample across various decades and styles. Just because there's no Florence Knoll in the inventory doesn't mean you won't find a lamp or knickknack that will breathe life into an unloved corner of your house.
Apple Annie's is also a fantastic resource for vintage Christmas decor regardless of the season. Arrive post-holidays for baubles on mark down!
Whatever you have in mind, save Apple Annie's for a day with free time to spare. I can spend hours winding through the antique-lined aisles. Check your step-counter before and after arrival for hard evidence of your thrifting mileage, and remember comfortable footwear. I'd go so far as to recommend hiking boots if you have them.
Whether you're a local or visiting from out of town, I consider knowing the best thrift stores in one's area crucial information. For the best antique store near Leavenworth, hop in the car and head to Apple Annie's Antique Gallery in nearby Cashmere. Not only is the drive beautiful, but the sprawling mall is brimming with treasures just waiting for the right home.
