This Fascinating Virginia Renaissance Faire Has Been Abandoned And Reclaimed By Nature For Decades Now
The abandoned Virginia Renaissance Faire in Fredericksburg is a decaying medieval-themed attraction that has been left to nature since 1999.
Virginia is home to countless festivals, fairs, and traveling events. Yet few people realize there's one fair that never left town: the abandoned Virginia Renaissance Faire. Located in Fredericksburg, the Renaissance Faire was once an attempt to re-create a medieval square where folks could travel back in time and enjoy all kinds of festivities. Yet, since 1999, the structures have been left to decay and are slowly being reclaimed by nature. The photos below provide a fascinating insight into this bizarre Virginia attraction.
Please note: the Renaissance Faire should not be visited, as it's located on private property. Trespassers will be subject to fines.
From 1996 - 1999, the now-abandoned Renaissance Faire was a medieval feudal port brought to life.
There were replica sailing ships, Elizabethan-era buildings, towers, and entertainers galore.
Yet this improbable town-come-to-life was doomed. After just two seasons, the show was bankrupt, and the attraction was left to ruin.
Parts of the fair were moved to a different location in Wisconsin, yet the original site in Virginia has been shuttered up for over two decades.

While it's impossible to visit, these fascinating photos show a glimpse of what the buildings have become.
As noted above, it is illegal to visit this abandoned site. The buildings are structurally unsafe and located on private property, and the area is frequently monitored by the Stafford County Sheriff's Department.
