Take A Winter Trail Ride Through Utah’s Pioneer History At This Is The Place Heritage Park

Utah's pioneer history dates back to 1847, when Brigham Young looked over the Salt Lake Valley and proclaimed, "This is the right place." There's a monument at that spot today, and the This is the Place Heritage Park offers a glimpse into pioneer life. You can take a horseback ride through the park, to check out its history and incredible views.

The park is full of fun activities and beautiful scenery year-round, but winter is an especially nice time to visit.

The homes and buildings here are mostly original structures that were moved to the park at some point. The Joseph Smith Staker Cabin was build in 1873, and has a lava-rock foundation.

The city views from This Is The Place Heritage Park are incredible, and you'll get a real sense of Utah history when you stand where pioneers once stood, looking over the valley that was to be their new home.

Whether you're new to horseback riding or an experienced rider, the healthy, gentle horses here are ready to show you around.

You'll take a trip through the base of Emigration Canyon to see incredible valley views. You might even spot some wildlife.

Trail rides are one hour long, and take you all over the 450-acre property. They're offered on Monday, Friday, and Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
