This One Destination Has The Absolute Bluest Water In Utah

Utah's Bear Lake is known as the "Caribbean of the Rockies," and we recently wrote about that gorgeous, azure water here. While Bear Lake is undeniably gorgeous, it's not the only place in the state with stunning, jewel-toned waters. Check out Lake Powell!

The waters of Lake Powell can look deep blue, or emerald green, depending on the location.

The lake holds 26,215,000 acre feet of water when it's full. It hasn't been full for awhile, however. This photo shows the previous water line.

According to the Bureau of Reclamation, in some places, the water is so clear that it reflects the sky. On a sunny day, Lake Powell is a gorgeous deep blue color!

Other places in the lake are home to an algae called cladophora, a feathery algae that makes the lake appear green.

Unlike the algae in Utah Lake, this algae isn't harmful; it provides food for many species of fish in the lake.

From high above the lake, it looks dark green.

Whether green or blue, Lake Powell is often a rich, beautiful jewel tone.

Lake Powell is perfect for summer recreation. Of course, you can hang out on a houseboat.

Kayaking on the clear, clean water is also fun.

And to cool off, you can jump off one of the cliffs that surround the lake.

Waterskiing is popular here , too.
