Discover The Rustic Barn That’s One Of America’s Most Photographed Buildings
Moulton Barn in Grand Teton National Park is one of the most photographed buildings in America.
Though you might expect spots like the White House and the Empire State Building to be among the most photographed buildings in America, you probably wouldn’t expect a little barn out in Wyoming to make the list. Moulton Barn is a ramshackle structure in Grand Teton National Park, but it’s one of the most snapped spots in the country.
Moulton Barn was built sometime between 1912 and 1945 by Thomas Alma Moulton and his sons. The construction likely took the better part of 30 years. It’s part of an area known as Mormon Row between the towns of Kelly and Moose.
According to Flickr data, the barn is one of the most photographed buildings in America. It’s easy to see why – the barn sits at the foot of the Teton Range and is perfectly positioned for the ultimate scenic snapshot.
Moulton Barn has become a symbol of Jackson Hole and renowned the world over. In fact, author Don DeLillo has used the barn’s reputation as inspiration for his novel White Noise. In the book, a character mocks the mindlessness that drives tourists to take pictures of a barn just because they know that other people photograph it.
If you want to see Moulton Barn for yourself, the National Park Service advises: "drive north from Jackson on highway 191 past Moose Junction and turn right onto Antelope Flats Road. Follow the road about 1.5 miles until you see a north-south running dirt road marked by a distinctive pink stucco house on the left with a small dirt parking area. A trail brochure and interpretive sign can be found in the parking lot."
