The Sinister Story Behind This Popular Texas Creek Will Give You Chills

Woman Hollering Creek in Texas is known for its haunting legend involving La Llorona.

You've probably seen the sign for this creek a million times while traveling on I-10, and you've probably found the name quite amusing. Well, we're telling you right now that what you passed wasn't just a body of water given a strange name because someone was bored; in fact, it has a sinister backstory that you probably had no idea about. Woman Hollering Creek between San Antonio and Seguin is one of the most haunted places in Texas, so visit at your own risk!

The woman that the name refers to is the infamous La Llorona, which means "the crier" in Spanish.

The story goes something like this: a young woman gives birth to twins and finds herself raising them alone after the father leaves. She then finds a new lover, who exclaims his hatred for children before she even has a chance to say that she is a mother. Believing she will never find love again as a single mother, she drowns her babies in the creek, crying out in anguish as she does so - hence the name "Woman Hollering Creek."

Her spirit supposedly still haunts the area, searching endlessly for her children because she needs their bones to get into heaven.

Legend has it that if you get too close to the water, you just might get pulled in, never to emerge again. Are you brave enough to take that chance?
