The store opened in 1847 as the Jones Trading Post and General Store.

Although the trading post is no longer in operation, the store is still remains open and has become an iconic stop just off Interstate 20.

It also serves as a museum - the post office still remains in the back of the store as a commemoration of the town's rich history.
