There’s Nothing Better Than This Epic Festival In Austin
Celebratory drum circles, glittery fairy wings, and whimsical acrobatics are just a few of the things you'll find at this quirky Austin event. This city loves to keep things weird, and this is no exception. Eeyore's Birthday has been an Austin tradition since 1964, and there's nothing better than this epic festival in Austin.
Every year, thousands of people flock to Pease Park to celebrate Eeyore's birthday.
Remember Winnie The Pooh? His good friend Eeyore was an incredibly sad donkey who kept loosing his tail. In 1964, a group of UT students wanted to cheer him up (and get a much-needed study break), so they threw a little party for this fictional character in the woods during their English class.
Good ideas catch on, and this festival soon became one of the most unique events in the city.
Over 50 years have passed since those UT students decided to play hooky in honor of Eeyore, but their kind sentiment lives on. Today, this festival has blossomed into an epic display of music, art, and costumes.
This event kicks off on the last Saturday of April.
Pease Park is hardly recognizable during this whimsical event. Over 5,000 people come to this event wearing a variety of flashy costumes. Kids love frolicking around the maypole and musicians never miss an opportunity to start a spontaneous jam session.
Acrobats show off their skills while local bands play their tunes.
This quirky festival raises money for local non-profits.
Friends of the Forest sponsors this thrilling event, and they distribute the proceeds to local organizations who need it. Past recipients have included Austin Pets Alive, The Breast Cancer Research Center, and Planned Parenthood of Austin.
Be sure to say hello to Eeyore!
Yes, Eeyore himself will make an appearance. Sing him a song, meet new faces, and express yourself! Eeyore's Birthday is an annual celebration of Austin's unique culture.
This year's event takes place from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, April 28th at Pease Park. You can find these magical displays at 1100 Kingsbury St., Austin, TX 78705. Ride-sharing is recommended. To learn more about this quirky local event, visit the Eeyore's Birthday Party website or Facebook page.
