There's something so magical about encountering a bridge in the middle of the woods. Will a troll pop out from beneath the wooden planks? Perhaps you'll see a pixie whiz past your head, leaving a trail of fairy dust in her wake? If you're looking for some enchantment, there's a bridge trail in Texas that takes you over a babbling brook and through the forest for a whimsical woodland adventure. It's like entering a storybook!
Tucked away in the little-known W G Jones State Forest, the Sweetleaf Nature Trail and North Boundary Trail Loop is one of the most magical hikes you'll ever take.
It's a short and sweet trail, measuring just over two miles, and features a wide variety of trees such as red and white oak, sweet gum, magnolia, and red maple.
With an elevation gain of around 50 feet, the trail is suitable for almost everyone.
The scenery is ever-changing; spring and summer features lush greenery, while fall and winter bring a more barren landscape that inspires reflective thinking.
As if a walk in the woods wasn't enchanting enough already, there's a wooden footbridge on the trail that looks like something from a fairytale.
You'll half expect a troll to pop out from below as you make your way across the wooden planks whose destination is both everywhere and nowhere.
Feel free to bring Fido, as the trail is dog-friendly. Your pooches will have a blast crossing the bridge!
The main bridge is fascinating enough on its own, but it isn't the only one you'll encounter! Several other bridges span gently babbling brooks, and they promise to capture your imagination.
While the hike is perfect for a quick afternoon adventure, it also connects with several other trails. Keep the magic going for as long as you'd like - who knows what else you'll discover?
