The Haunted Battlefield In Tennessee Both History Buffs And Ghost Hunters Will Love

When you have places of death, weird stories start to circulate around them. It could be a creepy old haunted house with a tragic story or a graveyard for the long-forgotten deceased. We know of a bloody battle during the Civil War that now has some strange stories surrounding it. This haunted battlefield in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is for both history buffs and ghost hunters.

Today, you can visit this battlefield preserved by the National Park Service.

It can be a bit disconcerting on a warm, sunny day to walk the same ground that was once covered in blood. The battle that took place here was a fierce and terrible fight, and many lost their lives. The country was completely torn apart ,and brothers in the same land killed each other in America's worst war, the Civil War.

You can walk the battlefield and see the many rows of graves of the lost men, but depending on who you ask, the souls of those lost soldiers may still be lurking around in the dark. Ghosts of the past are said to haunt this battlefield as if the war never ended.

On December 31st, 1862, the battle began at 6 AM.

Union soldiers fought hard to hold the line after several waves of Confederate troops took to the fight. The battle was long and hard. Arms were shot off, legs were blown to pieces, and hand-to-hand combat had men fighting face to face. Many men lost their lives that day.

It's this bloody tale that leads many to believe that some of the soldiers never left.

When the smoke cleared and the fighting was over, some left and others stayed to haunt the battlefield forever.

One area that seems to invoke a lot of paranormal activity is what they called the slaughter pen.

The fiercest fighting happened in the natural covering of the limestone rock formations and the surrounding trees. This natural place provided ample covering for gunfire. However, there was so much blood everywhere that the soldiers said it reminded them of a slaughterhouse, thus giving the name.

Ghosts have been seen walking the grounds, and there is even one story that came from a reenactor.

One night he went out to retrieve some water when he saw what he presumed was a trespasser. When he called for the man to come out from behind a bush, a soldier in full Civil War attire jumped out with his hands raised in surrender. The reenactor thought it was another actor joking around, so he positioned his gun at him. The other man fell to the ground and then vanished into thin air.

This haunted battlefield in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, saw a lot of death back in the civil war.
