This Roadside Attraction In Nashville Is The Most Unique Thing You’ve Ever Seen

If you've ever found yourself marveling at a sudden dragon outside your window in midtown Nashville, well - we get it. It's not an illusion, it's not bad sushi, it's real. And we have the story behind it. Here's the history of our favorite dragon mural, a beautiful yet underrated addition to our Nashville artistic landscape.

Hillsboro Village is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Nashville, proving to be a watering hole for college students and their families throughout the year. You'll find fan favorites like Taylor Swift in line at Fido, and everybody and their mother in the line at the Pancake Pantry. Beloved by all, it shouldn't be to difficult to find their dragon mural...

There she blows! Located in Hillsboro Village on the corner of 21st Avenue and Belcourt, the dragon wall mural has become a Nashville native of its own volition. It was originally painted in 1995, completed by artists David Glick and Adam Randolph.

The mural was modeled after the, "Sea Serpent," well-known by patrons of the Fannie Mae Dees Park. In 2015, local businesses even raised the funds needed to give the dragon a new coat of paint. They pulled together around $7,000 for local artist Andee Rudloff to give the much needed check up.

Located just outside the Belcourt, a local Indie movie theater, the dragon is a local Instagram wonder. You'll see it plastered across profiles and blogs alike, a beautiful spot perfect for a Saturday afternoon walk about town.
