Once upon a time, an animation studio by the name of Hanna-Barbera ruled the TV waves, producing such classics as Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, and -- of course -- The Flintstones. The modern stone age family took on a life of their own, gaining massive popularity and having their faces appear on cereal boxes, children's vitamins, and even a few select amusement parks, one of which was located right here in South Dakota. While this beloved SoDak amusement park is no more, we were able to uncover some old photos and videos that are sure to bring back happy memories of yabba dabba doo times:
Opened in 1966, Bedrock City was a colorful 62-acre theme park and campground that featured everything from rides to shops to train rides and photo ops with the characters.
Located in Custer, Bedrock City was part of a Flintstone family of theme parks, with other locations in both Arizona and Canada.
Admit it: Most of us had a family picture almost identical to this!
Unfortunately, the novelty of visiting a "place right out of history" continually dwindled and Bedrock City closed its doors for good in 2015.
While the park is no more (and is now the Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort), we still have our fond memories, pictures, and videos to remember Bedrock City by, including this super rare footage shared by Youtube user Kings Island History:
