One Of South Dakota’s Most Anticipated Annual Events Is Coming… And You Won’t Want To Miss It

It's coming, it's coming! One of the most anticipated of South Dakota events is just about here and we could not be more thrilled (if you could not tell)! What is this must-see event (if you have not already guessed)? Read on as we delve into this 50-year-old tradition:

Taking place September 27th through the 29th, 2018 is the highly-anticipated Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup, which is one of the last events of its kind in the world.

How does a roundup work? A group of 60 volunteer cowboys and cowgirls (plus a few park rangers in trucks) round up more than 1,000 buffalo and drive them into corrals, making for a sight that you have to see to believe!

Thanks to its appearance in "Dances with Wolves," the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup became even more popular in the 1990s and now welcomes an estimated 15,000 guests from around the world each year.

After the buffalo are corralled, local experts will examine, brand, and vaccinate the animals for an upcoming fall auction.

In addition to the roundup, the event also features breakfast and lunch, and a three-day Arts Festival with more than 100 vendors, making for an even more memorable weekend.
