This Lighthouse Tour In South Carolina Is A One Of A Kind Adventure You Simply Can’t Pass Up

Discover the unique experience of touring the Morris Island Light near Charleston, South Carolina, and enjoy wildlife sightings and scenic views.

If you live in South Carolina, then chances are good you are familiar with at least one or two of the lighthouses along the coast. One of them, the Morris Island Light, sits most of the time stranded in water just off the coast of Charleston. Glimpses of it are available after a short hike at the northern end of Folly Beach.

The Morris Island Light was built in 1876 with approximately 1200 feet between it and the shoreline. Today it sits roughly 300 feet from the shoreline and completely surrounded by water at high tide.

Most people don't realize you can take a local tour to go see the lighthouse. The tour departs from a dock located just off Folly Road. From the comfort of a new model Carolina Skiff, you'll enjoy every second of the ride as you make your way to the destination.

It's six miles to Morris Island. Along the way, your captain will point out the wildlife you encounter, including birds, dolphin and sea turtles.

Don't be surprised if you see a dolphin or two feeding in the shallow waters of the marsh at low tide,or simply tooling around in the surf once you arrive at the barrier island.

You won't get to go inside the lighthouse. It's clearly marked with No Trespassing signage. But you'll see more of it than ever, and get closer than you could ever imagine peering out over the water from the end of Folly Beach.

The tour lasts 2.5 hours, with approximately 45 minutes for you to search for shells and gawk at the lighthouse from up close. For lighthouse and history lovers, it's a one-of-a-kind experience you'll cherish.

The adventure is a fun way to see the diverse ecosystem of the Lowcountry marshes, a deserted beach on a barrier island, and the Morris Island Light all in one trip! It's suitable for people of all ages.

The tour times are based entirely upon the tide schedules, and there is always one tour per day. If the tide schedule allows, then the tour is at sunset - a bonus for any water tour along the coast! Current tour rates are $47 per person; $27 for ages 12 and under. For more information, check out the official website of Charleston Outdoor Adventures. You'll also find a wealth of photos and videos on their Facebook page.
