Rhode Island is a small state with big coastal offerings! Not only are the state beaches simply out of this world, but there are tons of beautiful parks and other sites to visit. The coast is so impressive in the Ocean State that there are more than 20 lighthouses to be observed within state lines. The longest standing lighthouse is one that will definitely impress any lighthouse fan.

Prudence Island is a small island found about a mile off shore in Narragansett Bay.

Though it has some residents, the island is mostly very rural and only accessible by private boat, or ferry from Bristol.

The gorgeous lighthouse found on the island is the longest standing lighthouse in the state.

While other lighthouses may stand on sites that have had previous structures, this lighthouse is the oldest living example of a mostly original construction.

The lighthouse hasn't always stood in the same place! It was formerly located on Goat Island and transported to Prudence Island in the mid 1800s.

The structure is nationally known to lighthouse fanatics for its rare birdcage lantern that is lovely to look at.
