Remember the carefree warm days of years gone by? We didn't yet have the mega water parks, with dozens of slides and attractions. But, we still had a ton of fun at our local water park, where we splashed, swam, and slipped down the one or two water slides it did have. Treat yourself to a classic warm weather day with a visit to this old-school water park near Pittsburgh. And, after you're done frolicking in the water, climb aboard some of the classic rides.
Slip on your favorite swimsuit. Pack plenty of sunscreen and a beach towel. And, embark on the scenic drive to Lakemont Park in Altoona, just under two hours from downtown Pittsburgh.
After two seasons of renovation, the popular Altoona amusement park, which opened in 1894, returns better than ever and with a new and improved Treehouse Water Park.
Claim your spot waterside with your beach towel before spending the day cooling off as you zip down water slides and...
Play in the Splash Pool or the Treehouse Activity Pool, the latter of which features fountains and a climbable tree for the kiddos.
And, when your skin starts to look like prunes, climb aboard one of the LakeMonster paddle boats to explore the 13-acre lake.
Then, how about a game or two of beach volleyball?
Of course, once you've finished your adventure at the water park, you'll definitely want to check out the rest of Lakemont Park. Get in line for such popular rides as the historic Leap-the-Dips and the Skyliner roller coaster.
But, why stop there? Lakemont Park also features go karts, a train, and plenty of spots to get a bite to eat.
