The Country’s Most Impressive Rest Stop Is Hiding Right Here In Pennsylvania
A leisurely drive in Pennsylvania often means traveling on the backroads and passing farmland, rolling hills, and small towns. But we don't always have time to take the scenic route, and that's when we turn to the turnpike. Chances are pretty good that we've all driven it at least once, which means we probably have a favorite travel plaza at which to stop for a quick bite, to stretch our legs, and to fill up our tanks. If you're driving along the turnpike and see the signs for South Midway, a popular rest stop in Bedford, Pennsylvania, pull over.
A long drive on the turnpike, even as we pass pretty scenery, can quickly become monotonous, which makes those signs for an upcoming service plaza oh-so-welcome.
Pennsylvania has 17 full-service plazas on the Turnpike. All are open 24 hours, so you can pull over no matter what time of the day or the night you're traveling.
If you're traveling Eastbound along the turnpike in Western Pennsylvania, you'll likely pass South Midway.
South Midway is located at mile marker 147.30 East.
Even if you're not stopping for a bite or to fill up, you'll find it's worth it to check out this historic rest stop, one of the original along the PA Turnpike.

Most of us stop at rest stops to fuel up - both for ourselves and our cars - and you'll find some popular eateries at Midway. Roy Rogers is the only one, though, that's open 24/7.
Auntie Anne's, Sbarro, and Starbucks are all open daily but have varying hours.
If you've forgotten something or want to stock up on snacks for the rest of your trip, pop into the 7-Eleven. It and the Sunoco are open 24/7, too.
