It's also an incredibly windy road, so buckle up.
Tallying just 27 miles, PA Route 144's High Plateau Scenic Byway wanders from Snow Shoe to Renovo, the latter of which is the most remote town in Pennsylvania.
You'll definitely want to make sure your tank is full, and you have plenty of water, snacks, and other necessities before setting off. Until you reach Renovo, you'll be traveling through remote areas.
The beautiful byway passes Sproul State Forest. If you've got time, you might want to stop for a bit of a visit. Go on a hike, or do a little wildlife watching.
Speaking of wildlife, don't be too surprised if you cross paths with some animals - deer, bears, and elk, for example - along your drive. Have your camera ready, if you're not driving.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to pull over to admire the views at such stops as Fish Run Dam Scenic Vista and Cranberry Swamp Natural Area.
Your journey will lead you to the darling town of Renovo. It's perfect to spend a little time exploring or even for spending the night.
