Movie Madness Is A Movie Museum And Video Rental Store In Oregon That’s Every Film Buff’s Dream

Movie Madness in Portland, Oregon, is a nostalgic video rental store and movie museum with a vast collection of films and iconic movie memorabilia.

Oregon loves a good throwback. We have nostalgic comic bookstores and classic film museums. We're home to the last remaining Blockbuster on the entire planet! And in Portland, there's a movie museum and video rental store that's a total treasure of a place. With its vast film collections and movie memorabilia, Movie Madness is pretty much every film buff's dream come true, and it fits right in here in Oregon!

Movie Madness is a total throwback. This old-school video rental store opened in 1991, and is a fixture in Portland.

Movie Madness boasts over 80,000 titles on VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray -- one of the largest collections in the country...

...and that number grows by the day!

While the layout of this video rental store in Oregon will feel familiar, this is *not* your run-of-the-mill movie rental chain.

This independent little shop is a veritable audio-visual feast. Iconic movie costumes and memorabilia are interspersed throughout the shelves, which surround every aisle, nook, and cranny of the store.

For film fans, Movie Madness is a mecca. This PDX institution houses a museum-level collection of film props that includes William Holden's shotgun from "The Wild Bunch," the knife from "Psycho" (!!), a prosthetic ear used in "Blue Velvet," and more.

For awhile, though, the future of Movie Madness hung in the balance. When Movie Madness founder Mike Clark decided he was ready to retire, he approached the Hollywood Theatre about taking over the business. After a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2017, the legendary Hollywood Theatre purchased Movie Madness, effectively securing the second act for this beloved place.

Do you remember standing in line to rent your movie -- no iPhone necessary (just your laminated video rental card)?

And while you waited in line, you eagerly picked out the best snacks for your at-home movie night?

The process of visiting a local movie rental shop, perusing the shelves, and selecting the perfect flick for your night... this is an experience that you simply can't have anymore. This is the magic of Movie Madness, an only-in-Oregon video shop that's a true treasure.

Have you been to Movie Madness before? Go old school for a night and rent a flick from this cool PDX spot! Learn more at the Movie Madness website and Facebook page.
