Be One Of The First To See The Adorable Baby Beaver At The High Desert Museum In Oregon
The High Desert Museum is one of my family's favorite Oregon hidden gems. There's so much to do at this fabulous attraction, from learning about local history, ecology, climate, and culture to learning about the communities and animals that live in the local region. There are also many animals on the property that visitors can view, including an impressive array of birds, reptiles, and mammals. I particularly love to see the owls and otters.
But it gets even better ... the museum is now playing nursery for an adorable new inhabitant! It is a yet-to-be-named baby beaver, who was around six months in late November and is sure to melt your heart. The cute little kit got separated from his family at just days old. He was rescued by a local good samaritan. Finally, at about two weeks old, the abandoned newborn beaver was adopted by the High Desert Museum, where he's taken care of by experienced animal trainers who have become his defacto parents.
Be sure to head to the museum to catch a glimpse of this endearing, busy little beaver!
The museum is home to over 120 animals, many of which, like the beaver, are housed out of public view. Luckily, most come out for daily talks and programs.
This museum has no shortage of fantastic things to do and see. On the extensive grounds of this museum, you'll find numerous exhibits but the little kit definitely steals the show!
When I saw her, the first thing she did was make a beeline to the water.
She zipped around, popping up for air and going on land before diving back into the pool.
It was so fun to watch her playfully zoom through the pool and interact with her trainer.
Some of the museum's other animals include turtles, tortoises, fish, and this fox.
The otters, who share their pool with the beaver, are also super cute.
The owls are also amazing.
The museum is host to this Gila monster and so many other cool creatures, too.
Watching the little kit affectionately paw her trainer's legs, ask for food, and chomp on her hunks of sweet potato was just adorable.
I can't wait to return to the museum to see her again!
Children and adults will enjoy this outing. For more information about the museum and baby beaver, visit the High Desert Museum website. If your visit to the museum includes a drive, you may want to stock up on car-friendly snacks and/or bring a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic areas. You could also enjoy a meal at the excellent museum cafe.
We'd love to know how you enjoyed your time at the museum, so please leave a comment. Also, feel free to share your favorite places to see baby animals in Oregon, too.
