Did you know that one of the oldest telescopes in the world is right here in Ohio? Most people don't. The Cincinnati Observatory in Mt. Lookout is an Ohio treasure not enough people visit. From the Old World telescopes to the awe-inspiring nighttime views, there's a lot to explore here.

Known as the "Birthplace of American Astronomy," this little-known observatory is perfectly positioned for telescope viewing. It's also home to some really impressive pieces of history.

You'll find it at 3489 Observatory Place, Cincinnati, OH 45208.

Few people know that The Cincinnati Observatory is home to one of the oldest telescopes in the world.

According to the observatory's website, it's "the world's oldest telescope still in use nightly by the general public."

The Cincinnati Observatory was officially deemed a National Historic Landmark in 1998.

The main telescopes at the observatory were purchased in 1842 and 1904.

In the evenings, the observatory is open to the public to view the moon, stars and planets through the telescopes every Thursday and Friday night at 8:30 p.m.

You can visit the observatory during the day on Monday - Friday from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
