This Hidden Destination In Ohio Is A Secret Only Locals Know About

By now, you've likely heard of the haunted Moonville Tunnel hiding in McArthur, Ohio. But did you know southern Ohio is home to another abandoned tunnel? The small town of Haydenville in Hocking County was once a booming mining and manufacturing town. Today, very few remnants of its past still exist.

Take a look:

In the late 1800s, Peter Hayden's Mining and Manufacturing Company was once a thriving industry for the town. Today, the tunnel is rumored to be haunted by ghosts of former workers.

You can find the tunnel in the ravine behind Haydenville Cemetery.

Just look for the arched entryway to the brick tunnel, (which is easier to spot in the late fall and winter seasons.)

The tunnel was once used to retrieve clay that was blasted into tile and brick, so it was a highly accident-prone job.

You'll notice a pile of bricks in the entryway of the tunnel, but you can climb over them (carefully) if you're brave enough.

(Please note: The tunnel is best observed from afar, as it is a dangerous structure. We do not recommend venturing inside.)

If you do decide to risk it, the further you venture into the tunnel, the creepier it gets...

...and deep within the tunnel, it becomes rectangular and the arched brick ceiling transitions into a flat wooden ceiling. Eventually, the tunnel dead-ends.
