These 9 Roadside Attractions In North Carolina Will Make You Do A Double Take

Discover the best hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest, known for their stunning scenic views and diverse landscapes.

North Carolina is no stranger to the weird, bizarre, and sometimes awesomely weird AND bizarre rolled into one. There are plenty of strange places to visit, but there are also some you might simply pass while driving down the road. These nine roadside attractions are guaranteed to make you do a double take, and even stop and snap a picture.

1. Harry's Grill & Piggy's Ice Cream, Hendersonville

This roadside attraction pays tribute to ALL roadside attractions by rescuing abandoned advertising statues and placing them throughout the exterior.

2. Reminiscing, the Giant Ode to Marilyn Monroe’s Legs, Henderson

First created in 2005 by Ricky Pearce, the Henderson townspeople were not too happy about their new roadside display. It seems they've lightened up to the idea of 'spread eagle' as it still sits today.

3. Acid Park, Wilson

While Acid Park is whimsical and strange during the day, it turns into something almost haunting at night. There's a dark urban legend surrounding this place, but really, the creator just wanted to show off his own whirligig theme park.

4. Mary's Gone Wild Folk Art & Doll Baby Museum, Holden Beach

Mary's is a wildly whimsical place that catches your glance before even reaching your destination. Read all about the history of North Carolina's most unique museum

here.

5. Cameron Barnstormer Murals

It's not everyday you see a work of art on the side of an abandoned tobacco shed....but Cameron native David Ellis and his friends (from NYC) breathed new life into this decayed tobacco town with their artowrk.

6. Bordeaux Shopping Center, Fayetteville

France in Fayetteville? It sure seems that way upon first glance of this mini-Eiffel Tower.

7. Santa Land, Cherokee

Year-round Christmas? Count me in! Santa Land celebrates the holiday no matter what time of year.

8. Metal Man, West Asheville

Leave it up to Asheville to have a statue of a Metal Man Riding a Pig Dog.

9. Metalmorphosis Statue, Charlotte

This incredible mirrored water fountain by Czech sculptor David Černý is mesmerizing and mind bending. You can find it at Whitehall Technology Park.

How's that for strangely awesome? Which ones were your favorites and have you seen any of these before?
