This Unique Museum In New Jersey Is Perfect For A Day Trip Any Time Of Year
There are few things I love to explore more than a great museum. I have so many childhood memories of exploring the aisles and marveling at the artifacts, dioramas - and of course, the massive dinosaur skeletons! But I have to admit, most of those were across the river in New York City. New Jersey's museums aren't as famous, but we do have some great ones - and one many people might not have heard of is the Morris Museum. This acclaimed museum in Morristown, NJ has the distinction of being accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and it has a great combination of activities that will thrill kids and intrigue adults. That makes it a perfect destination for when the weather is getting a little rough - but us museum lovers certainly won't object to it being an ideal day trip any time of year!
The Morris Museum is the second largest museum in New Jersey, and it's jam-packed with attractions.
Like many museums, its diorama collection is one of the highlights. So many animals have been recreated in their native environment.
The highlight of the museum is definitely the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection, dedicated to mechanical instruments and automated machines.
This area also features interactive kids' activities so young visitors can learn what makes the machines tick. The skilled staff is always on hand to provide an explanation.
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper museum without a dinosaur hall, would it? The one here is a deep dig into how these massive skeletons were excavated.
Special exhibits focus on kinetic art, including displays of LEGO structures and miniature train sets. There's always something new at the Morris Museum.
The museum is also housed in a gorgeous historic building, which makes it a popular spot for hosting events of all kinds.
